So What and Who Cares?

On New Year's eve A hotel in Dubai and some 1000 homes in Manila went up in flames. Red alerts cautioning terror were sounded from Munich to Moscow  and Ankara to Jakarta. Paris and Brussels played safe and London went on guard. Guess 2016 was not off to a great start. At least for quite a few places in the world. But did that stop the rest of the planet from having a great time? Not really. Neither terror nor fire could hold back the people from having fun. So much fun that a couple decided that it was cool to post a selfie with the fire raging hotel in the background on Instagram. Maybe they wanted to say; their love is hotter than the fire.
On the very next day, terror struck Pathankot (IAF base) with an attack from next door. As I write this blog 7 soldiers have been laid dead and many more have bled, but did it cause this nation to hold its breath? It's neither a Charlie Hebdo nor a Paris type attack; nor anything like the nation has seen in Mumbai 26/11 or New Delhi Parliament attacks. While headlines it made, we were more consumed with the "FaceBook - Free Basics" debate between the Indian Internet moralists and the American capitalist with little understanding of who stands for what. Even our great P-Circus had better things to do. Rather than standing together as one in the moment of crisis, one parliamentarian party leader thought it to be in the nation's interest to taunt the present government for the attack. He made it sound like it was the Prime Minister of India who had given a go by for the attack by meeting with his neighbouring counterpart just a few days back. Guess he wanted some "me" time in the press, irrespective of how insensitive his comment sounds to the soldiers still battling the situation.
In Tehran, the Saudi Embassy was burnt, as a brunt for the mass beheading of the Shia Cleric. Is it as shocking as the US embassy crisis of 1979? Not really. It is viewed as just another normal good neighbourly fight, that one is used to seeing in the region. Conspiracy suggests that the whole incident is something planned to get oil once again on the boil. Why one may ask? Well, (not an oil one), we have a world economy that shits bricks when oil prices goes up and boulders when it goes down. With predictions of this commodity slipping to Dollars Twenty (per barrel) does it matter to some if one Cleric and 46 mores' life is over and done; in what is considered the greater good for a profiting few - be it rulers, corporations or individuals?
The second week has just begun and Asian stocks are on the run. A slowing economy, much worse than expected, big brother China takes the blame. Then why would mother nature be left behind. She let loose a decent magnitude quake that gave much of North East India a shake.

With so much happening in just 4 days alone, are we in for a SNAFU* year?
So what if we are - does anyone care?

* Situation Normal All F@#ked Up.
